Help, from a person.
Short answers to the things people ask most. Nothing here needs you to describe what you saw.
Getting started
- Add Alcove to Chrome. A welcome page opens with your topics.
- Tap the topics you’d rather not read about, and add any words of your own.
- That’s it. Scroll as normal. The toolbar button has one switch if you ever want to pause.
Something slipped through
No filter catches everything, and we’re sorry when one gets past. Two things help straight away:
- Add your own words. A name, a phrase, a hashtag. Posts that use them won’t be there.
- Tell us the site and the topic, so we can catch it for everyone. Never the post itself.
Pictures and videos: today Alcove reads words, so a photo or video with no words around it can’t be judged yet. Checking pictures on your device is being built now, and it will arrive as a free update. Sites also change their pages often, and now and then something may slip through until Alcove catches up.
Too much is hidden
Switch a topic off, or swap it for narrower words of your own. Nothing is ever deleted: turn a topic off and its posts come straight back.
Can I see what was hidden?
Alcove doesn’t keep a list, and never shows what it kept out. If you want to see a page exactly as it is, pause Alcove from its button in Chrome’s toolbar, and switch it back on when you’re done.
Pausing Alcove
Click the Alcove button in Chrome’s toolbar and use the switch. Everything comes back as it was. Switch it on again and Alcove picks up where it left off.
Removing Alcove
Right-click the Alcove button and choose Remove from Chrome. Your choices are deleted with it, because they only ever lived in your browser.
Talk to a person
Write to eoinfr7@gmail.com and a person on the team will reply. Tell us your browser, the site you were using, and which topic it was about. You never need to send us the post itself.
