Get Alcove

A gentler way into the internet.

Pick what you’d rather not read about. Alcove quietly keeps it out of every page and feed.

Chrome first. Android and iPhone next.

Here, you see it go.

In Alcove, you never see it at all.

No gaps, no labels. Your feed simply carries on.

The internet shouldn’t be something you brace yourself for. Alcove takes out the few things you’d rather not see, so you can stay for everything else.

How it works

Alcove for Android, setting up: any words of your own, such as a name or a show you haven’t finished
01

Pick what you’d rather not see

Thirteen topics in calm, plain words, or add your own. On every web page you visit. Change your mind any time. Nothing is ever deleted.

Alcove for Android, setting up: which do you use? X, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, Threads, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Tumblr, Pagebound and Substack
02

Alcove reads along, on your device

On every web page, as each post, story or result appears, Alcove checks it against your topics right there on your computer. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Alcove for Android, setting up: watch it work, a calm feed that closes up with no gaps and no labels
03

Then it gets out of the way

No labels where posts were, no counts, no reminders. You just scroll, and the internet feels a little kinder.

Topics

Choose what you’d rather not read about.

Alcove keeps out posts that talk about these. Change your mind any time. Nothing is ever deleted.

A preview. In Alcove, your choices are saved on your device, and nothing is ever deleted.

If harmful content itself turns up in your feed, Alcove keeps it out of view too, along with the conversations around it. Removing it from the internet is the platforms’ job, and you can still report it to them. Alcove reads words today; pictures with no words around them can’t be judged yet, and we’re building that now.

Questions

The short answers.

Will it remind me what it hid?
No. Once it's on, Alcove stays out of sight: no labels where posts were, no counts, no notifications about what it caught. Those posts simply aren't there.
Is Alcove a screen-time blocker?
No. Every app and site works just as it always has. Alcove only takes out the posts, videos, comments and words about the topics you've chosen. Everything else stays right where it was.
Does it delete anything?
Never. Turn a topic off and its posts come straight back. Nothing is reported, removed or flagged to anyone.
Something slipped through. What now?
No filter catches everything, and we're sorry when one gets past. Add your own words to catch it next time, or tell a person on our team which app it was so we can make the topic better. You never need to send us the post itself.
Who is it for?
Anyone who'd like a calmer internet. People recovering from something, people who are tired of the news, parents setting up a first phone, or anyone who just wants fewer spiders in their feed.
Does it check pictures and videos?
Not yet, and we want to be upfront about that. Today Alcove reads words: post text, captions, video titles, hashtags, comments and image descriptions. A photo or video with no words around it can't be judged yet. On-device picture checking is being built now, and it will come as a free update.
How do I install it?
Alcove is in early access for Chrome. Download it and follow four short steps; it takes about a minute.
What does it cost?
It's free while it's in early access. We'll share pricing before launch, and there'll always be a generous free version.
